My long term love of all things Jane Austen led me to The Novel Neighbor last weekend, to check out their party in celebration of Jane Austen’s 242 birthday.
The party was held in the bookstore’s new event space, Next Door at the Novel Neighbor. There was (as expected) tea and cake, as well as Jane-related games with Jane-related prizes. Guests had a chance to make traditional holiday ornaments from vintage book pages, and representatives of both The Historic Hanley House and The Campbell House presented information on traditional holiday activities in 18th century St. Louis.
The Rep is currently showing “Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley” which is a newly-written sequel to the much-loved Austen novel “Pride and Prejudice.” Event attendees received 20% off tickets to the show, which runs through December 24th. (More info at http://www.repstl.org/) Reps from The Rep also brought along costume renderings from the production so event attendees could create photos as their favorite characters.
